April 7 – 9, 2016: When we departed Asheville we headed towards the southern entrance of Great Smoky Mountains National Park (also a World Heritage Site and International Biosphere Reserve) despite a weather forecast that potentially included snow.

Awesome Asheville

April 3 – 7, 2016: I had really been looking forward to visiting Asheville, North Carolina because I have it on my list of potential future places to live. It did not disappoint. It was just the right mix of outdoorsy, hippie, artsy, and foodie for my taste.

Blue Ridge Parkway (and surrounding area)

March 31 – April 3, 2016: Leaving Charlottesville, we entered the Blue Ridge Parkway at the northern most entrance (where we exited Shenandoah National Park) and proceeded to drive six miles before our first stop.

Monticello: Home of Thomas Jefferson

March 30, 2016: Upon exiting Shenandoah National Park we made our way to Blue Mountain Brewery for a very late lunch. We had two appetizer plates and a beer before continuing on to Monticello – the home of Thomas Jefferson (and a World Heritage Site).

March 28 – 30, 2016: From Harpers Ferry, West Virginia we made our way across the Virginia border and entered Shenandoah National Park and the Skyline Drive at the north entrance in Front Royal, Virginia.
